After the best
spring I have ever known followed one of the worst summers I
have ever known. Things got off to a good start with the
first two weeks of June being warm and sunny, then
everything went downhill with it turning cool, wet and
windy. July was a near (but not quite) write-off as thinly
scattered amongst all the wet days were some gloriously
sunny and warm ones. Here in the South West we missed out on
all the floods that affected places further north and east,
in fact it seems (as is often the case) that we had the best
of the weather. With the arrival of August came the first
really settled weather since early June, though there was a
short rainy spell mid-month.
