A warm and generally sunny month with a hot start and end. Warmer than 2005, 2007 and 2008, and only slightly cooler than 2006 (mean 16.7°C).

As would be expected, the warmth followed the sunshine with a short, cool spell from the 6th to the 8th. Otherwise, daytime temperatures have been consistently high with only 5 days failing to exceed the LTA. This month had 20 days with a temperature greater than 20°C, the highest since 2006 (21 days).
Overall rainfall was above the LTA but 38.7 mm of the 53.9 mm total fell in just one afternoon on the 6th. Just 15.2 mm fell during the following 23 days, all from thunderstorms. Conditions at the end of the month were very dry.
Quite a thundery month though none of the storms were severe and gave only small amounts of rain.
The month started sunny with 65 hours of sunshine during the first week (1st - 7th) alone. Sunshine levels were then a little lower, but still reasonable during the 2nd and 3rd weeks before climbing again in the 4th week with 59 hours (24th - 30th). This month did not end up as sunny as June 2008 (233 hours) but was much sunnier than 2007 (157 hours).
Soil temperatures were generally above normal throughout. 30 cm soil temperatures reached 19.0°C on the 30th, higher than anything recorded during the summers of 2007 & 2008.
Winds were dominant from the east and south-east directions.
Rainfall duration for the whole month was only 18.0 hours and reflected the dry 'nature' of this month despite the above average rainfall.
Sea temperatures gradually rose throughout the month and ended up rather above normal.
Mean pressure was just 0.5 hPa below normal.
Dewpoints were significantly low during the middle of the month but soon rose, and were quite high at times.
The very dry air at the beginning and middle of the month was replaced by much more humid conditions at the end.
