August continued in the same way as June and July with generally unsettled, often cloudy weather though there were quite a few warm and sunny days as well.

The temperatures for August were generally slightly above average until the final week, which ended up very cool. There were several unusually chilly nights and cool days.
Rainfall was well above the average with a very wet day on the 4th.
As would be expected in a summer month, there were no air or grass frosts. Only one day when thunder was heard.
Sunshine levels were below the long term average and continues a run of dull Augusts that started in 2008.
Soil temperatures were above normal at the beginning of the month but fell below average during the final week.
Wind was dominant from the westerly direction though the sea breeze played a role in increasing winds from the south and south-easterly sectors.
Rainfall duration was 38.0 hours, most of which was in the form of heavy rain.
Sea surface temperatures were slightly above normal at the beginning of the month and generally stayed that way until the last week. They ended the month a little below normal.
Mean pressure was below the average for August and indicative of the unsettled nature of this month.
Dewpoints were a little below average.
The RH ended up being below normal due to regular incursions of fairly dry, cool air.
